Riders competing in the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) will be racing in a winner take all race for the final and eighth spot at the United States BMX Olympic Trials. The winner of the Olympic Trials will represent the United States of America at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Gilbert, AZ (PRWEB) June 04, 2016

After three weekends of qualifying in Oldsmar, Florida; Rock Hill, South Carolina; and Grand Junction, Colorado; the field of riders for the last chance qualifier has been narrowed down.

USA BMX CEO, Bernard Anderson had this to say about the event, “The LCQ is one of the most exciting things we have created in BMX racing.  The event opens the door for any one of the qualified riders to earn a spot at the Olympic Trials. Both Pro and Amateur can potentially become an Olympian.  This is a list of extremely talented riders and we can’t wait to see who earns their spot.”

The last chance qualifier will occur the day before the United States BMX Olympic Trials in Chula Vista, California. Riders from around the United States, in amateur and professional categories, were able to qualify by competing in four of the six races offered. The best four scores were used to determine qualified riders. The Last Chance Qualifier will take place on Friday, June 10 on the Beijing replica track at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. Practice starts at 8:30 AM and racing begins at 9:30 AM. The winner of this race will advance to the United States BMX Olympic Trials on Saturday, June 11, at the Rio replica track at the Olympic Training Center.

The following 17 riders have qualified to compete in the Last Chance Qualifier:

Amateur Qualifiers:
Alec Bob (Plano, Texas)
Michael Boyle (Boise, Idaho)
Bryce Betts (Brentwood, California)

A Pro Qualifiers:
Hunter Pelham (Willis, Texas)
Jordan Miranda (Bakersfield, California)
Layne Gainer (Mesa, Arizona)
Zachary VanKammen (Lake Elsinore, California)

Men Elite Qualifiers:

Jeremy Smith (Dayton, Ohio)
Tyler Whitfield (Rockford, Illinois)
Tyler Brown (Chula Vista, California)
Riley Stair (Folsom, California)
Tyler Faoro (Coral Springs, Florida)
Logan Collins (Mt. Juliet, Tennessee)

While one of the 17 riders will have the opportunity to continue their Olympic dream, one rider has already fulfilled that dream. Nic Long of Lakeside, California placed 3rd over the weekend in Medellin, Colombia at the 2016 UCI BMX World Championships. By virtue of his finish, Long earned an automatic spot on the 2016 United States Olympic Team. Long was also a member of the 2012 United States Olympic Team.

One of the two remaining spots on the men’s team will be filled by the winner of the BMX Olympic Trials. The eight rider field will consist of the winner of the LCQ and seven riders chosen by USA Cycling, the National Governing Body for the sport of cycling.

Corben Sharrah (Tucson, AZ) earned 1 of the 8 spots in the Olympic Trials by having a podium finish at the UCI Supercross World Cup in Santiago Del Estero, Argentina and his top 5 standing in the power rankings. Jeffrey Upshaw (Dayton, OH) and Jared Garcia (Victorville, CA) earned spots by being ranked in the top 5 in the USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings. The remaining four spots were filled using USA Cycling’s Principles of Athlete Selection. The four spots went to Tanner Sebesta (Buda, TX), Barry Nobles (Sun City, CA), Justin Posey (Winston-Salem, NC), and David Herman (Wheat Ridge, CO). Herman was a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team. The seven riders will be joined by the winner of the LCQ.

The Olympic Trials will be held Saturday, June 11 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. Gates will open at 12:30 PM and racing will start at 2:50 PM. Tickets are available at the gate and are $10. Reported by PRWeb 7 hours ago.

Fed Notebook With "Classified Bank Info" Stolen In Chicago Robbery

$

Last week we learnedm courtesy of a Reuters FOIA that there over the past 6 years there has been a coordinated attack to hack the Fed.

Just a few days after a report emerged that the security at the US Federal Reserve had been breached on at least 50 occasions between 2011 and 2015, yesterday a U.S. congressional committee launched an investigation into the Federal Reserve's cyber security practices. The House Committee on Science, Space and Technology on Friday sent a letter to Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen to express "serious concerns" over the central bank's ability to protect sensitive financial information. The letter cited the Reuters report, which was based on heavily redacted internal Fed records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

While the redacted records did not say who hacked the bank's systems or whether they accessed sensitive information or stole money, one can make the assumption that penetrating the world's most important central bank likely has a monetary motive.

"These reports raise serious concerns about the Federal Reserve's cyber security posture, including its ability to prevent threats from compromising highly sensitive financial information housed on the agency's systems," said the letter, signed by House Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, a Texas Republican, and Barry Loudermilk, a Georgia Republican and chairman of the panel's oversight subcommittee.

A Fed spokesperson said the central bank had received the panel's letter and "will respond to it."

As Reuters reports, the panel asked the Fed's national cyber security team - the National Incident Response Team - to turn over all cyber incident reports in unredacted form from Jan. 1, 2009, to the present. It also asked for incident reports from the Fed's local incident response teams.  The panel also requested a "detailed description of all confirmed cyber security incidents" from 2009 to the present, all documents and communications referring or relating to "higher impact cases" handled by the Fed's NIRT team, all documents and communications with the Fed's Office of Inspector General related to confirmed cyber incidents, and an organizational chart detailing the Fed's top cyber security personnel.

* * *

And then there is the brute force method, because one doesn't need to hack the Fed's firewall to gain access to confidential Fed files. Simple theft will suffice.According to the Chicago scanner, yesterday around noon, "a laptop owned by the Federal Reserve with classified bank info" as well as a Fed Blackberry were stolen from a home in Lakeview, just north of Chicago.

Taken in Lakeview home burglary: A laptop owned by the Federal Reserve with classified bank info & a Fed Resv BlackBerry #ChicagoScanner

— CWBChicago (@CWBChicago) June 3, 2016

Considering the Fed's now ubiquitous role in setting "prices" across countless assets, one wonders i) just how much market-manipulative, inside information the robber now has at their disposal, and what kind of profits he or she can generate and ii) whether unlike Hillary Clinton, this particular Fed Blackberry had a password. There Is No Justice In Killing Dylann Roof

A few months ago, I learned that the state of Texas publishes the last words of the men and women it executes. At first, reading through each statement made me feel uneasy, as if I were eavesdropping on a conversation through a door that was mistakenly left cracked open. But after reading through several dozen of the testimonies, amid the disquiet, I began to feel as if I were bearing witness to a small moment of human redemption. To read through each statement is to be introduced to something we would otherwise neglect. It is a small reclamation of humanity for those whom we have deemed to be no longer worthy of it. I was particularly struck by the words of a man, named Reginald, before he was strapped to a table to receive lethal injection: “They are fixing to pump my veins with a lethal drug the American Veterinary Association won’t even allow to be used on dogs. I say I am worse off than a dog.” This, in its rawest form, is capital punishment. The death penalty not only takes away the life of the person strapped to the table—it takes away a little bit of the humanity in each of us. Reported by The New Yorker 3 hours ago.

Millennials can't get anything done at work because they're wasting time on social media

Millennials can't get anything done at work because they're wasting time on social media Millennials are a problem at work.

At least that's what people are telling the Dallas Federal Reserve.

On Tuesday, the latest Dallas Fed manufacturing report showed that factory activity slowed down much more than expected in May.

The Dallas Fed surveys factory owners to compile the monthly release, and the final report includes edited anecdotes on how businesses are doing.

In May, a lot was said about the Department of Labor's new overtime rule, which more than doubles the income threshold of eligibility to $47,476 per year from $23,660.

The concern was that this would raise the costs of labor. And one manufacturer was furious while saying that millennials already weren't bothering to give their money's worth.

Here's what the person told the Dallas Fed (emphasis added):

The Department of Labor rules and other government regulations are seriously slowing down business development, increasing overhead costs, reducing productivity and causing increased management time spent on non-customer-focused/non-value-added efforts. We have a serious productivity problem with office workers and estimated that less than 50 percent of their time is spent on value-creating business activities.* The younger workers are often off task, engaged on social media, on the internet, texting on phones and other unproductive activities.*

*The Department of Labor must realize that if we are supposed to pay them overtime for work they should do during normal work this will make us have to focus on micromanaging employees and reducing compensation to reflect actual productivity of a mandated 40 hour or less workweek.*

That's quite the rebuke.

We'd imagine that the concern also comes as the labor market gets tighter and wage pressures continue to build everywhere, even in Texas' struggling manufacturing sector. Of all the indicators the Dallas Fed measured in May, only prices paid for raw materials and wages were rising.

US labor productivity, or how much output each hour of work produces, is already in one of its worst stretches ever.

Here's the rest of the person's comment:

All the government regulations and Department of Labor rules are doing is making our country less competitive, creating more part-time workers, reducing workers to a max of 35–39 hours, creating divisions and demotivating the top achievers. New workers who want to take on special projects to gain experience or prove themselves will not get the chance as employers will not want to incur the additional overtime costs with unclear outcomes. We want to compete, we want to hire more people and we want to innovate. Let adults agree to employment terms and conditions.

'Glee' star Mark Salling pleads not guilty to charges of child pornography

Actor Mark Salling, who had a supporting role as a high school athlete-turned-singer in the TV series Glee, pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges of receiving and possessing child pornography, authorities said.

The 33-year-old Salling surrendered to authorities at the federal courthouse in downtown Los Angeles before entering not guilty pleas to the two charges, said Thom Mrozek, spokesman for the US Attorney's Office for the region.

An attorney for Salling could not be immediately reached for comment on Friday afternoon. Mrozek said Salling would likely be freed on Friday on $150,000 bond. A trial date was set for July 12, he said.

The federal charges against the Texas-born Salling for receipt and possession of child pornography stem from his arrest by Los Angeles police and federal agents on Dec. 29, 2015. He was released on bail of $20,000 and was initially expected to be charged in Los Angeles County court.

The US Attorney's Office said that as a result of the investigation, the case was handed over to federal prosecutors.

The charges against the actor center on a still image and three videos of child pornography depicting young girls, prosecutors said. The two charges each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.

On the award-winning Fox television show Glee, which ran from 2009 to 2015, Salling played Puck, a bully and a football player who showed a softer side when he joined the glee club at his high school.
